LOOK AT THIS!!!
www.brigolante.com/wp-content/…
Is it a painting? Is it a photo? No! It's a stained glass window! This is stained glass painting at its finest. Look at the detail on this beauty! This is a window of Queen Marguerite of Savoy made by the Moretti-Caselli studio in Italy. This is beauty. This is art. This is what I want to do as a career! Future apprenticeship at the Moretti-Caselli studio one day? Hopefully, maybe

Disclaimer: I once again, get kind of preachy in this note. So if it bothers you, click on something else.

I am pleased to see many of my family members and peers making an effort to help and improve the Earth. Some buy fluorescent light bulbs, some recycle, others drive less, if they have much money, then they will buy a hybrid or electric car. Unfortunately I see many people, even those who claim to be avid environmentalists, tip-toe around the elephant in the room when it comes to environmentalism. This "elephant" is overpopulation. It is a (literally) growing problem worldwide and must be stopped as soon as possible, otherwise bad things will happen not only to the world, but to the entire human race.

This morning my cheerful mood about the new year quickly dissipated when the news came on and projected that the world wide population for 2011 would increase to 7 BILLION PEOPLE!!!!!! Let me tell you something, the world CANNOT HANDLE 7 BILLION PEOPLE! The world might be able to sustain that many people if everyone didn't drive all the time, lived in little, tiny huts, didn't use excessive amounts of energy, didn't drink much fresh water, and didn't eat like pigs. People are the most populated mammal on the Earth now. This is a problem because everyone is wasteful, people in third world countries like China and India want to live like the wasteful people of America and Europe. If the entire population of China lived like every American, it would be hell on the environment. Many of the humans being born into this world are being born into poverty. The billions and billions of people are driving cars that produce green house gas and contribute to global climate change.

As this excerpt from Wikipedia says, "Concern about overpopulation is relatively recent in origin. Throughout history, populations have grown slowly despite high birth rates, due to the population-reducing effects of war, plagues and high infant mortality. During the 750 years before the Industrial Revolution, the world's population hardly increased, remaining under 250 million.

By the beginning of the 19th century, the world population had grown to a billion individuals, and intellectuals such as Thomas Malthus and physiocratic economists predicted that mankind would outgrow its available resources, since a finite amount of land was incapable of supporting an endlessly increasing population."

There is not much in the ways of land on earth, since 70% of the earth is engulfed in water. If the population grows anymore, we will have to destroy our protected lands to build houses on. Do you want places like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone to be gone because of housing? Also, There is not that much fresh water on the earth. People living out in deserts or the middle east struggle to find water. Does anyone recall all of the times people out in Las Vegas and California complain because there is a drought and there is a water shortage? If the population grows there will be a greater demand for water. While water is a renewable resource, there is only so much fresh water to go around. Will we have wars over water one day? Water is only the tip of the iceberg, there are even more natural resources that are scarce. We could eventually go to war over the other natural resources.

With the ever increasing wasteful human population encroaching on wildlife habitat and virgin forests, other species of animals will begin to suffer. Many animals will go extinct because of our selfishness. Humans also have a habit of cutting down trees for many reasons. The thing is though, we need those trees to breathe. They produce oxygen. If many trees are gone, what will we do? The earth cannot handle us and our wastefulness.

So you are probably wondering what to do? Well I have some solutions.

1. The most obvious thing to do would be to either just have one kid or have no kids. Besides, who wants a baby anyway? The scream until their lungs bleed and crap themselves all the time. When that baby gets older, it will suck all of money out of your bank account. Finally, when it becomes an adult, it will move on and just forget about you, maybe even shove you into a nursing home. If you want a big family that badly then just adopt. There are plenty of children with special needs who are in need of adopting.

2. Stop being so wasteful! In the winter when you are waiting on someone in your car or are about to leave, don't leave your car on and running for 5-40 minuets so it can warm up or keep you warm (talk about being wasteful). Recycle anything you can. During Christmas I was peeved to see more people throw away their wrapping paper and present packaging. When something is damaged or tears, fix it instead of throwing it away.

3. When buying something, think about its environmental impact. When buying a car, do you really need a butt ugly hummer? You'll end up losing money in the long run since it isn't energy effective.

4. When having sex, use contraception, or just don't have sex at all! If you don't know where to get or how to use contraception (CPR just isn't a good sex ed program), go to a planned parenthood place (there's one in Lebanon, IN) or look up how to use contraception on the internet. Or just don't have sex. I see more married couples who have children and can't afford to take care of their kids, and then they have more kids! Having a kid is like buying a dog; if you can't take care of it, then don't buy/have it. If you can't afford a kid, guys keep your junk in you pants, girls close your legs.

Overpopulation is a serious problem, something must be done to stop this current trend. Maybe the government will have to step in and do something. We might have to take a page from China's book and have the 1 kid per couple rule. We might have to take an intelligence test and if you're too stupid, no kids for you (Besides, do we want people like Heidi Montag to have kids?). We might get paid to have no kids. Either way, something must be done.

You may call me a crazy radical for wanting something to be done about overpopulation, I really don't care what you think. I don't care if the thought of population control makes you feel uncomfortable, something must be done. The truth is there are way too many people and not enough resources. The resources we have are being squandered on stupidity as we speak. Just do the right thing and not have more than 1 kid, the earth can't handle it. While it is our God-given right to have kids, it is also our God-given right to protect our earth and the life that already exists on this planet.

Well I'm back to doing artist of the week again, but I will update my journal every Saturday instead of every Thursday. I just didn't have the time during the week because of school or work. Sorry about the hiatus!

This week's artist of the week is none other than alone-and-ignored, :iconalone-and-ignored: . This artist is very talented and has a knack at drawing facial expression and body language very well. One can just glance at her art and pick up the overall mood of the piece. She is also skilled in her digital art coloring. I recommend alone-and-ignored as a talented artist in digital art!

My favorite pieces by this artist:
